Newsflash:

AN IMMIGRANT CRUSHED.

world_news_nigeriaA West African immigrant was crushed to death in the Bronx in a freak accident while loading a vehicle into a container truck, the NYPD said. The life of Abdul Barry, 49, came to a  gruesome end as he moved the Toyota pickup-bound for resale in Africa-into a container hooked up to a truck cab, witnesses said.

Barry was standing inside the container when chains that suspended the truck above him snapped and sent the vehicle crashing down on him. He was a former cab driver in Africa, immigrated from West Guinea in 2005, leaving behind his wife and a daughter who is now 11.

His second child was born over a month ago. Selling vehicles was one of several ways he supported his family. He also ran a Bronx storefront where he sold socks and T-shirts.

THE DEATH OF A NIGERIAN AFTER A BUTTOCK-IMPLANT.

An aspiring hip-hop dancer and choreographer, Claudia Aderotimi, has died of heart attack in Philadelphia after cosmetic surgeons with some shady professional backgrounds injected her with buttocks enhancing silicon. The 20-year old Nigerian born in Britain and her friends came to the

United States for the surgery after she arranged with a group of women who advertised their services online. The butt-enhancement treatments were administered on Claudia at the Hampton Inn hotel in the Southwest area of Philadelphia. Shortly after the treatment she complained of chest pain and had difficulty breathing. She had to be rushed to the Mercy Fitzgerald hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania where she was pronounced dead before doctors could save her.

IS THE ARAB WORLD REVOLTS FAR FROM OVER?

Inspired by the revolts in Tunisia and Egypt, unrest has spread around the Arab world as scores of people are being killed and wounded for demanding for reforms and freedom in Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Yemen and Libya.

The worst hit is Libya, which Muammer Gaddafi has ruled since 1969, and the Gulf nation of Bahrain. Renewed protests turned violent across Libya, with opposition activists saying hundreds have been killed with the number growing. The protests against Gaddafi has also spread to the capital, Tripoli as at the time of putting this article together.

The latest news coming out of Libya through the internet is too barbaric because Gaddafi ordered the security forces to fire on Libyan citizens and killing scores simply for demanding for change and accountability. Just like Egypt activists are helping to send the images of the killings to the world.

The big worry now is Saudi Arabia because Bahrain and Yemen that border the oil kingdom on the east and south respectively are both facing anti-government protests. Saudi Arabia, the oil Goliath which holds in her hands the only significant spare production capacity that can meet any potential global supply disruption has the world watching closely.

As the protests spread from country to country, oil prices have gone up. Since the start of the anuary 25 popular uprising in Egypt, international crude oil prices have been oscillating at levels just above $100/barrel, rising at one point to more than $104/barrel. The revolution moving across the Arab world is only the end of the beginning. What begins now is the struggle for the future of the Arab World and I hope they will rebuild their economies slowly to a stronger level after the revolution.
